Ephesians 2:10
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God
prepared in advance for us to do.”
A few nights ago my 3-year old son, Jude and I were putting together a puzzle. As all to often happens around here, we were getting down to the final pieces when we realized we were one short. Putting together all we had, we were left with a near complete, but imperfect picture. While what we had was okay, it was clearly not all it could have been. As I sat looking at the incomplete puzzle, I was reminded how well that puzzle illustrates God’s plan for each of us. We are all unique and yet fit together to fulfill God’s greater purpose. When one piece goes missing, or one person chooses not to fulfill their purpose, the entire picture becomes a lesser version of what it could have been.
Ephesians 2:10 is one of my all time favorite verses. It tells us, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Think about that for a minute. You are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for you to do.
You see, no two of us have the exact same purpose or reach. God has created each of us with our own gifts, talents, strengths, relationships, and communities. Those who you can impact are different from those who I can. Only you can fulfill your purpose and others are counting on you to do so. Don’t minimize what you are called to do, or think you shouldn’t pursue the work God has in store for you because someone else already has done, or is doing something similar. If God has placed a call on your heart, go after it. The puzzle will not be complete if you do not do your part. Don’t compare yourself or your call with others. Follow God and trust He will use you in a unique way to play a role in His greater story for His glory and the benefit of others.
How would you describe God’s purpose for your life? Are you fulfilling your purpose today? If not, what is keeping you from doing so?
Whether you’ve been walking in your purpose for a long time, or have just begun the journey of discovery, God will help you fulfill what he’s called you to do. God’s the one who is at work in you to fulfill His divine purpose for your life.
Follow hard after God and commit to fulfilling His purpose for your life. I am confident no one who completes the works God has given them, who fulfills their specific purpose and lives out their God-given destiny looks back with regret wishing they had done anything else with their life.
Here’s to living out your purpose – to completing the puzzle with the piece only you can fill.
