Psalm 127:3
“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”
As Mother’s Day quickly approaches, I wanted to take a minute today to encourage all of the Moms out there. Why? Because if you are a Mom, I am guessing you could use it!
I am a Mom to three absolutely amazing little guys now ages 8, 7, and 3. Being a Mom is arguably one of, if not the greatest privilege and opportunity I will have on this side of eternity. I love my little guys beyond words and could not be more grateful for the gift of being their Mom.
Over the years I have come to appreciate different things about each of my boys. Dean, my oldest is my kindhearted, organized guy who makes everything from academics to athletics look far too easy. Luke, my 7-year old is a party waiting to happen. Luke always has a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. His laugh is contagious and his personality is charismatic. Everyone needs a Luke in their life. And Jude, my little guy, well, he is my sweetheart. He is a Mama’s boy at heart, a little love who is always ready to give hugs and kisses. As of late he likes to give me a kiss on both cheeks and then say, “Oh Mommy, I could mooch you all day.” I mean seriously, melt my heart!
While each of my boys are special in their own unique way and I love them immeasurably, can I just be honest here and say even with all of their wonderfulness, some days as a Mom are, well, just plain hard. I know I have had many a day where I have felt like I do nothing more than referee their arguments, stay on them not to make one more mess in the house, or constantly remind them to simply stop annoying one another and be kind. If you are a Mom, I am guessing you can relate.
If you have ever had a day as a Mom where you have felt like a failure, or that you are wasting your time with all of your mothering efforts, I want to share one of my all time favorite quotes. Andy Stanley once said, “Your greatest contribution may not be something you do but someone you raise.”
Don’t you just love that? It’s so great, let it sink in, “Your greatest contribution may not be something you do but someone you raise.”
Even on the difficult days, never forget God has given you the incredible opportunity to impact another life for eternity. Not a single moment you spend as a Mom is wasted. The time you invest in your kids can multiple for generations to come. If you are a Mom, you may have no greater purpose in this life than to raise your children to know and love God. Let’s be intentional to pray for our kids, provide them with a godly example, and encourage them in every way possible to grow in their own personal relationship with Jesus and to ultimately live out God’s purpose for their life.
This Mother’s Day remember your greatest contribution in life may just be someone you raise, not something you do.
Happy Mother’s Day!
