Proverbs 16:3
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Ah yes, the new year is almost here. With gifts unwrapped, Christmas celebrations complete, and far too much food consumed (can I get an amen?!) most of us now once again find our focus shifting to the new year with all of its possibilities and promise.
If you are like me, the new year brings with it an excitement about what is to come – what could be and should be in the year ahead. When it comes to new years goals – I love them! The planner in me thrives on the idea of deciding on what I all want to accomplish in the coming year and how I plan to reach those objectives.
While like me, some of you also find making and working towards goals energizing and engaging, I’m fully aware not everyone falls into this category. Perhaps you are more like my husband, you prefer to take life a day at a time, to focus on the here and now rather than on tomorrow – okay, or 5 – okay, or 10 years from now.
So for this year, whether you thrive on making and achieving goals, or prefer like my husband to take life as it comes, I would like to offer a challenge to each of you. As we head into the new year, consider and name one thing, one goal that would make 2017 your best year yet.
Think on that for a minute. What one thing would need to happen in your life to make 2017 your best year yet? Maybe for you it means reconciling a relationship, granting forgiveness, or moving beyond a past hurt. Maybe it means pursing a new relationship or friendship. Perhaps it means living a healthier lifestyle, going back to school, applying for that job, or starting your own business. Maybe it means reading through the Bible, memorizing scripture, or leading or volunteering in a new role. What is that one thing for you?
Not sure what your one thing is? What is the Holy Spirit speaking to you about this? What is it that if it does not happen by 2018 you will regret?
If you could pick just one goal, one thing to happen in your life in 2017 what would it be? Why that? Why is that one thing so important to you?
Don’t let the coming year simply happen to you, be intentional. Make 2017 your best year yet by living with a plan and purpose, committing it to the Lord. Work towards making your one thing become reality and just see where it may take you.
I’d love to hear from you. What is your one thing? What first step are you going to take this week towards making your one thing realty; towards making 2017 your best year yet?
Here’s to an amazing 2017 – Happy New Years to all!
